Welcome my name is Kim.
I have always been passionate about my home, family, interiors, gardens, colour palettes, fabrics, antiques and all things creative.
I do feel I was born in the wrong period and should be wearing crinoline petticoats, doing needle work and drinking from the finest bone china tea cups. Well the fine china tea cup is reality. I adore anything old and pre loved or up cycled, as Tauranga is such a young city I have to kerb my passion somewhat.
I always dreamt of owning my own Interiors store and now it is finally a reality, after marrying and raising two wonderful children, renovating and doing up properties in England, then emigrating to New Zealand 9 years ago and building a period property here in Tauranga. Now the children are grown up I felt the time was right. Not great timing though with the state of the world’s economy.
So began the task of researching, finding retail space, design, logos, branding and filling my empty retail space with treasures that make my heart sing. I began displaying items to my heart’s content.
After painstakingly deciding on a name and trade marking it “Tilly & Tiffen” evolved. Representing the English and vintage elements of the store.
The doors opened for trading in July 2011. My friends and family were a great support to me and I thank each and every one of them for their love, support and believing in me and my dream.
My vision was and is to offer my customers quality, well made, home wares, gifts and furniture, vintage and antiques, hand picked by myself. If I don’t love it then it does not find it’s way to our shop.
I love people and sharing life with other like-minded creative souls.
I knew I needed to have a point of difference hence the eclectic mix of old and new, I love the creative process, from the sourcing, buying, displaying and selling to a new owner. My visions come from the soul, I adore textures, velvets, ditsy florals , distressed or up cycled finds, unusual bits and bobs romance, whimsicality , femininity and a dash of bling, but all need beauty, comfort and function.
I love surrounding myself with all my favourite things and I fuss about small accents, meaningful details and those finishing touches.
I am drawn to a world of yesterdays and a touch of make believe, I love giving old things new life, I get excited if I inspire someone to perform an achievable project in their home, however small, sometimes all it takes is a little encouragement.
The history of an object is often more appealing than the object itself, break some rules when displaying items & furniture, for example for displaying flowers if a vessel holds water consider it a vase. I love how visual and tactile textures add that level of interest and how layers of decoration work and the miracles that are nature.
